Feed Your Mind

Today marks two months since the publication of Feed Your Mind—A Story of August Wilson. I wrote this book to lift up the life and work of a brilliant, pioneering playwright who educated himself by reading every day at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh after being bullied out of his mostly-white classrooms. The facts of his early life and his later 10-play cycle are little-known by many adults and even fewer young people. It’s my sincere hope that Feed Your Mind will remedy this omission in our schools, libraries, homes and bookstores.

Debut illustrator Cannaday Chapman and I have been delighted at the warm reception for Feed Your Mind from readers, educators, librarians and reviewers.

And … we finally met each other in Baltimore at NCTE!
