I’ve been talking a lot about Georgia O’Keeffe this month. Georgia's Bones (illustrated by Bethanne Anderson, whose beautiful art for the book is shown here) began as a series of narrative poems. After visiting a local exhibition of O’Keeffe’s paintings with Eileen and Jerry Spinelli, I shared my poems with Eileen. “You know, if you wrote a beginning and an ending and stung these poems together, this could be a picture book . . . you could call it Georgia’s Bones. Who would not take the advice of Eileen Spinelli??! I did—and it was, indeed, my first picture book. Thank you again, Eileen!
